Ahahaha. WHAT.
Dec. 31st, 2008 02:55 amWas trifling in the card aisle earlier this evening, waiting for my sister to get off of work. And then I found a pretty card with a fire-breathing dragon and a castle and ... Um. Then this happened... I don't even know.
One day, Jensen was at the store, and he saw this card:

And he thought, Hey, Jared likes dragons. I think.
So he opened the card. There was a castle drawn inside. Jensen knew that Jared definitely liked castles. Well. Maybe. If the word 'burger' was attached to it.
Two for two, Jensen thought. So Jensen read the inscription inside and smiled.
He bought the card and a jar full of jam (they were running low on jam).
"Here you go!" Jensen said, and slapped the jam jar down on the counter. He placed a yellow envelope with Jared's initials written in orange crayon beside it. (The orange crayon was the only writing utensil Jensen was able to find in the glove compartment. He also found a pack of Mentos. He ate one, and it tasted like foot.)
"Hey, what's that?" Jared asked.
"Oh, it's just a card. I found it at the store."
"Is it for me?"
"Yes."
"What's the occasion?"
Jensen handed the card to Jared. "Just read it."
So Jared took the card and read it. He looked up at Jensen when he'd finished, and frowned. "Jensen. This is a birthday card."
"Yup."
"It's not my birthday."
"...it's not?"
"No."
"Let me see that card."
"Okay."
"No peeking."
"Do you want me to close my eyes or something?"
"Uh, yeah. Do that. And face the wall."
"Have I done something wrong?"
"No."
"Okay." Like a good puppy, Jared did as he was told. Jensen grabbed a pen off of the refrigerator door. (The boys left notes on the refrigerator door. 'J- Buy strawberry jam.' was written on Garfield stationary. It was crossed out.)
As Jared faced the wall, eyes closed, he heard pen scratching paper, frustrated mutterings and then something crashed. A few seconds later, two hands gripped his forearms firmly and twirled him around.
"Okay. You can open your eyes now."
Jared had already opened his eyes. He smiled at Jensen. Jensen had a spot of strawberry jam on his shoe. Jensen prodded him forward. "Watch out for broken glass," he said. Then: "Read the card again."
Jared reread the card. Jensen had crossed out birthday and written unbirthday under it. Jared chortled. "You know... you could've just added an 'un' to the birthday."
"Shut up. ...And, yeah."
Jared stuck the card on the refrigerator door, next to the Garfield stationary. He wrote 'J- Buy strawberry jam (again)' under the previous (crossed-out) reminder.

I would CROSS THE WIDEST DESERT,
CLIMB THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN,
SWIM THE deepest ocean,
I would BATTLE MY WAY
THROUGH HORDES OF EVIL ENEMIES
AND FACE THE biggest dragon
GUARDING THE strongest castle
to get to you...
OKAY, I DON'T KNOW IF I ACTUALLY COULD.
I MEAN, IT'S ALL REALLY FANCY, ROMANTIC TALK.
BUT I WOULD TRY.
I WOULD TRY
WITH all I have.
